Swedish Massage in Overland Park, KS

Swedish massage is the classic — the foundation of Western massage therapy and still one of the most effective ways to release tension, boost circulation, and help your whole body settle. I'm Dee Jeffries, LMT, and I use the traditional Swedish techniques at my Overland Park studio to help clients feel looser, calmer, and more restored after every session.

What It Is

Swedish Massage, Defined

Swedish massage is a traditional full-body technique built on five core strokes: effleurage (long, gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading), friction (targeted cross-fiber work), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), and vibration. Together they warm the tissue, increase blood flow, flush metabolic waste, and calm the nervous system — the blueprint that most modern massage styles are built on.

Why Clients Choose It

Common Reasons

  • General muscle tension and stiffness across the whole body
  • Poor circulation or a feeling of sluggishness in your muscles
  • Stress that has settled into your neck, shoulders, and back
  • You want the classic, proven massage experience
  • A first massage that is gentle, thorough, and easy to trust
My Approach

How I Work

I start with long effleurage strokes to warm the tissue and get a sense of where you are holding tension. From there I layer in petrissage to knead and lengthen the muscle, friction to work through any specific tight spots, and rhythmic tapotement to stimulate circulation. The pressure stays moderate — firm enough to be effective, never so deep that you brace against it. It is a flowing, full-body session rather than a targeted pain session.

Who It's For

  • First-time clients who want the classic, foundational massage
  • Anyone with general tension rather than a specific injury
  • People who want improved circulation and a genuine full-body reset
  • Clients who find deep tissue too intense but still want real results

What Your Appointment Feels Like

  • A full-body session that flows from area to area rather than drilling into one spot.
  • A mix of long gliding strokes, kneading, and gentle rhythmic tapping.
  • Moderate pressure — enough to release tension, never enough to cause pain.
  • You leave feeling warm, loose, and refreshed, often with better sleep that night.

Questions & Answers

Swedish Massage FAQ

What is Swedish massage?+
Swedish massage is the traditional foundation of Western massage therapy, built on five core strokes — effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement, and vibration. It uses moderate pressure and flowing, full-body movements to release tension, improve circulation, and calm the nervous system.
Is Swedish massage the same as relaxation massage?+
They are closely related. Swedish is the technique — the specific set of strokes and the moderate-pressure, full-body approach. Relaxation massage borrows heavily from Swedish but focuses more on nervous-system downshift and stress relief. If you want the classic technique, book Swedish. If your main goal is to decompress and unwind, relaxation is the better fit.
How is Swedish different from deep tissue?+
Swedish uses moderate pressure and flowing, full-body strokes to improve circulation and release general tension. Deep tissue uses slow, focused pressure to reach deeper muscle layers and address chronic pain. Swedish is the right choice for overall wellness and light-to-moderate tension; deep tissue is better for specific, stubborn pain.
Is Swedish massage a good first massage?+
It is one of the best. Swedish is gentle, thorough, and easy to trust — the foundation most massage newcomers start with. You stay in control of the pressure throughout, and the full-body approach gives you a complete picture of what massage can do.
Can I add hot stones or CBD to a Swedish session?+
Yes, both pair beautifully. Hot stones deepen the relaxation and warming effect, and CBD pain relief cream adds an anti-inflammatory boost to areas that need it. Mention your interest when booking and I will build it in.
