Hot Stone Massage in Overland Park, KS

Some tension needs heat before it will let go. Hot stone massage combines warm, smooth stones with massage strokes to melt tightness in a way hands alone cannot. I'm Dee Jeffries, LMT, and this is one of the most-requested sessions at my Overland Park studio — especially during the colder months and for clients who carry stress that has hardened into their muscles.

What It Is

Hot Stone Massage, Defined

Hot stone massage uses smooth, heated basalt stones placed on and massaged along the body. The warmth penetrates deeply into the muscle tissue, softening tension and increasing circulation before I ever apply manual pressure. The result is relaxation that reaches a layer hands alone struggle to access.

Why Clients Choose It

Common Reasons

  • Deep stress and tension that relaxation massage alone has not resolved
  • Chronic stiffness that feels better with heat
  • Poor circulation or always feeling cold
  • A need to fully unplug and decompress
  • General muscle soreness from daily life or mild overexertion
My Approach

How I Work

I warm the stones to a comfortable, therapeutic temperature — never scalding. I begin by placing stones along key tension points to warm the tissue, then use the stones themselves as an extension of my hands, gliding them along your muscles. The combination of heat and steady pressure lets me work more deeply with less force, which is why hot stone feels both deeply relaxing and genuinely effective.

Who It's For

  • Anyone who holds stress in their muscles and responds well to heat
  • Clients who find deep tissue too intense but still want real relief
  • Cold-natured clients or anyone dealing with poor circulation
  • People seeking a deeply calming, almost meditative experience

What Your Appointment Feels Like

  • Warm stones placed along your back, hands, or feet to begin warming the tissue.
  • Long, flowing strokes with the stones that feel deeply soothing.
  • A calming, slower pace — many clients drift into a near-sleep state.
  • You leave feeling warm, loose, and noticeably lighter.

Questions & Answers

Hot Stone Massage FAQ

How hot are the stones?+
The stones are warmed to a therapeutic temperature — warm enough to relax the tissue, never hot enough to burn. I always check the temperature against my own hands before placing a stone on you, and I check in about comfort throughout the session.
Is it just placing stones on my body?+
No. While some stones are placed and left to warm specific areas, I also use the stones as a tool to massage with — gliding them along your muscles with oil. The combination of stationary warming and active stone massage is what makes the session effective.
Can I combine hot stone with deep tissue?+
Yes, and it is a great combination. The heat softens the tissue so deep work is more effective and more comfortable. If you want both, mention it when booking so I can plan the session — the 90 or 120 minute lengths work best for a combined approach.
Is hot stone safe for everyone?+
Hot stone is not recommended during pregnancy, for clients with certain conditions like neuropathy or diabetes with reduced sensation, or for anyone with heat sensitivity. If you have any health concerns, let me know when booking and I will advise whether hot stone is right for you or suggest an alternative.
