Deep Tissue Massage in Overland Park, KS

If chronic tension has settled into your back, neck, or shoulders and won't let go, deep tissue massage is where I start. I'm Dee Jeffries, LMT, and I've spent over a decade helping Overland Park clients break through stubborn pain patterns — not with brute force, but with slow, intentional pressure that gives your body time to actually release.

What It Is

Deep Tissue Massage, Defined

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Rather than gliding over the surface, I use slow, focused strokes and sustained pressure to reach the bands of tension that sit underneath — the kind that everyday stretching and a hot shower can't touch.

Why Clients Choose It

Common Reasons

  • Chronic lower back, neck, or shoulder pain that lingers for weeks or months
  • Tension built up from long hours at a desk, behind the wheel, or on your feet
  • Recovery from a strain or injury that has healed but left you tight
  • Limited range of motion — turning your head, reaching overhead, bending comfortably
  • A history of holding stress in your muscles until it becomes structural
My Approach

How I Work

I never force my way into tight tissue. I warm the surface layers first with flowing strokes, then gradually sink deeper as your body gives me permission. When I hit a stubborn knot, I hold steady pressure and wait — often the tissue softens on its own once it trusts the pressure is staying. You'll hear me check in about pressure more than once, because effective deep work lives right at that edge of 'hurts so good.'

Who It's For

  • Desk workers with chronic neck and upper-back tension
  • Tradespeople, nurses, and anyone whose body takes a daily beating
  • Athletes recovering from training or dealing with overuse tightness
  • Anyone who has tried relaxation massage and felt it barely scratched the surface

What Your Appointment Feels Like

  • We start with a quick conversation about what hurts, what happened, and what you want from the session.
  • I work slowly — deep tissue is never a race. You may feel a satisfying ache as I work into restricted areas.
  • It is common to feel slightly sore the next day, similar to a good workout. Hydration and a warm shower help.
  • Most clients feel noticeably looser and more mobile within 24 hours.

Questions & Answers

Deep Tissue Massage FAQ

Will deep tissue massage hurt?+
There is a difference between productive discomfort and pain. You will likely feel an intense but satisfying ache when I work into a tight area — clients often call it "good pain." If anything feels like too much, I adjust immediately. Deep tissue should never leave you bracing or holding your breath.
How often should I come for chronic pain?+
For an acute flare-up, weekly sessions for 2–4 weeks can make a real dent. For ongoing maintenance, most clients settle into every 3–6 weeks. I will give you an honest recommendation after our first session based on how your tissue responds.
What should I wear?+
You undress to your comfort level. You are always draped securely, and only the area I am working on is uncovered. Your dignity and comfort come first.
Is deep tissue the same as deep pressure?+
No, and this is an important distinction. Deep pressure just means pushing harder. Deep tissue is a technique — slow, targeted strokes that reach beneath the surface layers. I can do deep tissue at a pressure that is actually moderate, because the goal is reaching the right layer, not applying maximum force.
Can I add cupping or CBD to a deep tissue session?+
Yes, and they pair well. Cupping helps release stubborn bands of tissue, and CBD pain relief cream extends the anti-inflammatory benefit. Just let me know when booking or at the start of your session.
