Whether you are training for a marathon, lifting five days a week, or just refuse to slow down on the weekends, your body takes a beating that a general relaxation massage won't address. What It Is

Sports Massage, Defined

Sports massage is targeted bodywork focused on the muscle groups you use most in your sport or activity. It blends deep tissue techniques, assisted stretching, and compression work to support performance, speed recovery, and reduce injury risk. The approach shifts depending on whether you are pre-event, mid-training, or recovering.

Why Clients Choose It

Common Reasons

  • Faster recovery after hard training blocks or events
  • Chronic tightness in sport-specific muscle groups — hamstrings, hips, shoulders, calves
  • A nagging issue that is not quite an injury but is not going away
  • Preparing your body for an event or race
  • Maintaining mobility and tissue quality during a heavy training cycle
My Approach

How I Work

I start by asking what you are training for, where you are in your cycle, and what is tight or off. Then I focus on the muscle groups your activity stresses most — runners get hips, glutes, and legs; lifters get shoulders, back, and forearms; cyclists get quads, hips, and neck. I combine deep tissue work with stretching and compression, and I adjust the intensity based on whether you are peaking, recovering, or tapering.

Who It's For

  • Runners, cyclists, and endurance athletes
  • Strength athletes and cross-training regulars
  • Weekend warriors who go hard and feel it Monday morning
  • Anyone in physical training who wants to stay ahead of injury

What Your Appointment Feels Like

  • A focused, goal-oriented session rather than a full-body relaxation massage.
  • Deeper work on the muscle groups tied to your activity, often including stretching.
  • Pre-event work is brisker and lighter to prime the tissue; recovery work is slower and deeper.
  • You may feel slightly sore the next day, similar to a post-workout feeling, then looser and more mobile.

Questions & Answers

Sports Massage FAQ

When should I book relative to an event or race?+
For a pre-event tune-up, book 2–4 days before — close enough to feel fresh, far enough that any soreness has cleared. For recovery, 1–3 days after a hard effort or event is ideal. Avoid a deep session the day before a race; I use lighter, activating techniques if you come in that close.
How often should I get sports massage during training?+
During a heavy training block, every 1–2 weeks keeps tissue quality high and catches problems early. During lighter periods, once a month for maintenance is usually enough. I will help you find the right cadence based on your goals and how your body responds.
Is sports massage the same as deep tissue?+
They overlap, but the intent is different. Deep tissue targets chronic tension wherever it lives. Sports massage targets the specific demands of your activity and factors in your training cycle — the timing and the muscle groups are chosen with your sport in mind.
Can you help with a specific injury?+
I can help with muscle tightness, soreness, and recovery. If you have an acute injury, sharp pain, or a diagnosed condition, please check with your doctor or physical therapist first — and I am happy to coordinate with them on what work is safe and helpful.
