Cupping Therapy in Overland Park, KS
Cupping is one of my favorite tools for the tension that stubbornly refuses to release with hands alone. The suction lifts the tissue rather than compressing it, which changes the conversation with stubborn knots. I'm Dee Jeffries, LMT, and I use cupping both on its own and as a powerful add-on to deep tissue and therapeutic massage at my Overland Park studio.
Book This SessionCupping Therapy, Defined
Cupping therapy uses cups placed on the skin to create suction. Instead of pressing down into the tissue like massage does, cupping lifts the skin and superficial fascia, increasing blood flow, releasing adhesions between tissue layers, and encouraging stubborn muscles to let go. I use both stationary cups and gliding (moving) cupping depending on the goal.
Common Reasons
- Stubborn knots that keep returning despite regular massage
- Chronic tightness in a specific area — shoulders, upper back, or IT band
- Restricted mobility or a feeling of tissue "stuckness"
- Scar tissue or adhesions from old injuries
- Localized pain that responds well to increased circulation
How I Work
I identify the areas where tissue is stuck or restricted, then place cups to create suction on those spots. For broader work, I use gliding cupping — moving a cup along the muscle with oil, which feels like a deep, reverse-pressure massage. Cups may stay in place for a few minutes or be used dynamically. I always check in about comfort, because the sensation of cupping is different from traditional massage.
Who It's For
- Clients with chronic, localized tightness that regular massage has not fully resolved
- Athletes dealing with overuse knots and restricted mobility
- Anyone with adhesions or scar tissue limiting movement
- Clients curious about adding a different tool to their massage sessions
What Your Appointment Feels Like
- A pulling or lifting sensation rather than the pressing sensation of massage.
- Cups left in place for a few minutes on target areas, or moved along muscles (gliding cupping).
- Round marks may appear where the cups were — these are painless and fade over several days.
- Many clients feel immediate looseness and improved range of motion in the treated areas.

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Rather than gliding over the surface, I use slow, focused strokes and sustained pressure to reach the bands of tension that sit underneath — the kind that everyday stretching and a hot shower can't touch.
Learn MoreTherapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage is a customized session that draws from multiple techniques — deep tissue, Swedish, myofascial work, stretching, and cupping — based on your specific concerns. Rather than following a set routine, I assess your body, listen to your goals, and build the session around what will actually help.
Learn MoreSports Massage
Sports massage is targeted bodywork focused on the muscle groups you use most in your sport or activity. It blends deep tissue techniques, assisted stretching, and compression work to support performance, speed recovery, and reduce injury risk. The approach shifts depending on whether you are pre-event, mid-training, or recovering.
